Our Projects 2022-2025
Three-Year Intervention Project 2022-2025
Over the next three years we will focus on is high-risk children struggling with the basics in the Waikato and Hamilton Communities. We will provide holistic support with the goal improve educational and life outcomes for each child. We will focus on children struggling with literacy and have learning difficulties/differences that affects their ability to be taught in ways that do not work for them i.e. balanced literacy. There will be attention given to tamariki with developmental, neurological, dyslexia, learning disabilities/challenges. We believe that every child is entitled to quality education that best suits their learning needs and will positively impact their educational journey and lives.
Our Why
Why is our focus on raising literacy rates? A good question - please click on the PDF to view this this collection of stories and publications over the course of the last few years which cover the state of literacy Aotearoa/New Zealand and the changes implemented in 2024/2025.
Maara Kai Garden to Table Project
Grow, harvest, prepare and share. This project is teaching children the skills they need to grow their own vegetables and a way to empower whānau to grow their own gardens. Over 2022-2024 we will support whānau and tamariki interested in growing their own vegetables. If you would like more information please email us at tuitust@hotmail.com
Projects 2019-2022
Womens Project 2021-2022
The COVID-19 lockdowns had a disproportionate effect on women/wāhine and girls/kōtiro in Aotearoa, including job losses, increased caring work and increased family violence. In order to support organisations to continue to support acute and immediate needs, the Minister for Women, Hon Jan Tinetti, announced a COVID-19 Community Fund in 2021. Tui Trust is grateful to the Ministry for Women for assisting us with a grant that supported wāhine and kōtiro in the Waikato that were facing significant hardship in the communities we serve. Tui Trust supports wāhine and kōtiro on a referral basis until the end of 2022. This project is now complete.
Through the Lens Project
Launched in April 2020 the goal is to create impactful learning experiences through the use of AI technology and teach Te Reo Māori in a ‘magical and compelling way’. We are grateful to WEL Energy Trust, The Ministry of Social Development and the Lottery Grants Board who supported this Project.

Promoting Hauora Project -
After a year of research and development we launched this project in July 2020 to build culturally competent and resilient children. Our goal is to implement the well established Jumping Beans© Model tailored for Moko Club and then examine the influence of a Māori-centric physical activity programme on teachers’ knowledge, skills, attitudes and pedagogies towards physical literacy and nutrition within education centres.
